The C208 chassis was a marked departure from the previous mid-size Mercedes coupe, in both looks and intent. While the outgoing C124 leaned towards luxury more than sport, the new model was meant to capture a younger demographic with more aggressive exterior and a sharper more athletic driving experience. This was particularly true of the CLK55, a specification that not only included a more aggressive bodykit and the iconic AMG Monoblock wheels, but a stiffer suspension setup and the raucous M113 24-valve V8 with 342 hp 120 hp more than any factory mid-size coupe from Mercedes had ever had for the US market.
