Perhaps you’re considering an alternative to the gasoline engine when shopping your next car. Diesel, hybrid, electric; each has their pros and cons but Toyota is now adding another option with less compromise. Meet the 2016 Mirai; a 4-door, mid-size sedan powered by hydrogen. It works much like a battery electric vehicle but replacing the large drive battery is a fuel cell stack. With a reduced size that fits neatly under the front seats, the new fuel cell combines hydrogen with oxygen to generate electricity which in turn powers the electric motor. There’re no carbon emissions, just water. Extensive hot and cold weather testing ensures the Mirai operates in even extreme conditions.
